Their mission includes healing the hearts of the people of the wealthy village, Mele Manakudy in Kanyakumari dist.,Tamilnadu washed away by the ruthless Tsunami waves. The inevitable disaster of nature licked away the hopes and dreams of thousands of people. It devastated a whole shore including the whole earnings of heir life time. Shocked by the poverty and uncertainity of life the victims of disaster seems stunned before their accursed destiny.

Here is the importance of Tsunami relief work done by Living water ministries in the affected village. They have completed one month of service at Melemanakudy.

Rev. Jayan Daniel, President and Pastor of Living water international ministries gives leadership to the team of 10 members. He said: I was in Switzerland when the Tsunami hit the shores of India. I was staying at the house of Benjamin Levi, Leader of L W M Switzerland chapter. I watched the report on B B C Channel. News of the widespread damage and increasing numbers of the dead was really shocking.

It takes more time to get report from Kerala. We were really anxious to know the news from our motherland. The picture of families frantically searching for their loved ones and toppled concrete buildings create brunt of tremor in our hearts. At the same moment we decide to do some relief works according to our ability in the affected area.

What are the methods of your relief works?

We have a plan of very systematic projects.

1.Counselling: This is the very urgent need of the Tsunami victims. They are very much disappointed, can’t help themselves to accept the situation or to take over challenge of life they had to face. Inspite people of Manakudy were living a very sumptuous life. Now they have to start from absolute zero. It will take time to heal their wounds. So we find a very talented counselling team of six members doing full time service in this village. Dr. Robinson from Neyyattinkara leads the team.

2.Social Works: This is named as ‘care’. Manohar Daniel retired headmaster in Nagercoil leads the team.120 children below 5 years residing here. Dairy products are provided for them. We also provide nutritious food and the service of gynaecologist’s for more than 50 pregnant ladies.

3. Educational Aids: We give one time grant for childrens studying in First, second, and third std.

4. Fathers house: About 8-10 orphanes are living with a family in coimbatore. This work is named as ‘Father’s House’. This is a long term rehabilitation project. The Pastor of Nagercoil A G English church Mr. Georgi Abraham, our co-worker is the Local Co-ordinator of this relief work.

About your finance?

We have no sufficient fund to fulfill our mission. Financial support for the Tsunami relief work is sponsored by the Switzerland chapter and New York chapter of Living Water Ministries. We hope to do more work if someone help us financially.

Other works in India?
Now we have works only in south India. Living Water Ministries centered in Coimbatore, was registered at New York in 1997. And the Living Water Bible college is working under the leadership of Pr. P. u. Benny, Indian co-ordinator of this ministry.

Future Plans:
To establish provincial Bible colleges in south Indian states such as Kerala, Karnataka, Andra, Tamilnadu and to upgrade Bible colleges as English Medium Bible Colleges. Making shelters for orphanes. Our mission includes schools, medical centers and church planting.

Out of India? Now LWM have chapters in Switzerland, U.S.,And Australia. We are planning to open chapters in Malaysia and singapore.

To the surprise Nagercoil in Kanyaku0mari Dist., Tamilnadu, majority of people (90%) are christians. South east part of Nagercoil is the Mele Manakudy village. 100% of the inhabitants are catholics. This village cannot be compared to any other fisherman village before December 26th. So much luxurious life they lived. Most of them owned a two or three storyed house in the sea shore with airconditioners.Women covered themselves with gold .. Most modern household equipments, and computers are part of their lives. But Tsunami stealed their whole earnings along with 150 lives also. December 26th morning they were all truanted because of the christmas celebration and sleepless night. By 9o’ clock they saw and extra ordinary event. Sea receded to 2-3 Km. away from the shore.

People can’t belive their eyes. Astonished by the new phenomenon they start collecting huge tiger prawns. But after two hours the backslided sea returned like huge mountains. The terrific waves raised above the coconut trees swallowed the whole shore. About 35 concrete buildings are also washed away by the sea.

Now they were all living as the inhabitants of government rehabilitation center. Immeasurable loses and mental agony driedout tears from their eyes . No men go for fishing after that black Sunday. They are staring to the future cursing their destiny.

Medical Camp
Living Water International ministries conducted a medical camp at Mele Manakudy for the Tsunami affected people. Hundreds of people get the benefit of free medical checkup and medicines. Dr. T. C. Mathew, Director of Divine Touch Ministries had given leadership to the team of six efficient doctors. With great pleasure we intimate our gratitude towards the Doctors and every body who attended in the medical camp.
